Bio

I wear many hats as a full time musician. Currently, I serve as an adjunct faculty music instructor at Pima Community College West Campus Center for Fine Arts, where I teach music majors in guitar performance, and MUS 100 Guitar Class for non-majors. As an author, I publish music instructional materials through BPM Publications. These are used as course materials in each of the courses I instruct, and for my private students, as well. As a private instructor, I teach from a private studio office located within Metro Gnome Music, where I enjoy coaching students of all ages in various styles of guitar, including: rock; jazz; blues; folk; and classical. As a performing artist, I perform regularly throughout the Tucson metro area as a soloist, and in several Vegas-style cover bands, including: “80s and Gentlemen,” “The Mockingbirds,” and “The Lollapaloozers.”  As a classical recitalist, I have performed throughout the western hemisphere, covering the Continental US, Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, and Central Europe.

My academic accreditation includes a B.M. from SUNY Fredonia, and M.M. from The University of Akron. In 1995, I had a unique opportunity to travel to Caracas to study with one of Venezuela’s national treasures, Luis Zea, through a study abroad hosted by SUNY Fredonia. I have also studied in dozens of master classes with many of the top names in the business, including Christopher Parkening, David Russell, John Williams, Elliot Fisk, Sergio Assad, Dusan Bogdonivic, David Leisner, and David Tanenbaum. In my competition days, I have won prizes in several international solo guitar competitions, including the Ralph Stevens Solo Guitar Competition, the Norman Sholin Solo Guitar Competition, and was a finalist in the Walnut Valley Solo Fingerstyle Competition.

As a teacher, I am proud of his students’ success stories. Some have gone on to win national competitions, while others have been featured artists in various major festivals and performance series, or claim victories in battle of the bands, or recording in major studios across the nation.
